Alchemy Labs allow you to create potions and poisons by combining ingredients that you find in the world. All ingredients have four effects. You can learn the first effect of any ingredient by selecting it in your inventory and eating it. To learn the other effects, experiment with it. At an Alchemy Lab, you can combine any two or three ingredients and attempt to make a potion with them. If the ingredients share at least one effect, you succeed: you get the resulting potion or poison and learn all of the effects that matched. If none of their effects match, crafting fails and you lose the ingredients. The resulting item is a potion if its strongest effect is beneficial, and a poison if its strongest effect is harmful. Potions may have weaker harmful effects, and poisons may have weaker beneficial effects-it all depends on the effects of the ingredients you used. To use a poison, activate it in your inventory to apply it to your equipped weapon. To use a potion, activate it in your inventory to drink it. If you drink two potions with the same effect, only the most powerful is applied, so wait for one potion to wear off before drinking the next. As you discover ingredients with matching effects, the Alchemy Lab menu will remember the matches for future use. Continue to experiment to learn new effects and find better combinations.

Creatures, spells, and traps can infect you with diseases. Diseases have a range of debilitating effects that range from light to severe. Open the Magic menu and check the Active Effects list to see which diseases you are infected with and what their effects are. To cure yourself, drink a Potion of Cure Disease or seek healing at a temple or shrine. The effects of diseases are cumulative, so they will add up over time if left untreated.

Crouch to begin sneaking. While sneaking, your stealth state is displayed on the reticle: a closed eye means that no one can see you, an opening eye means that enemies are searching for you, and an open eye means that you have been detected. If you attack without being detected, you perform a Sneak Attack, which does additional damage.
Crouch to enter sneak mode. While sneaking, your current stealth state is displayed on the reticle: - A closed eye means that no one can see you. - An opening eye means that enemies have become alert and are searching for you. - A fully open eye means that someone has detected you. - If the reticle displays DETECTED, an enemy has spotted you and is about to attack. - If the reticle displays HIDDEN, enemies have lost track of you and stopped searching. If you attack while the eye is partially closed, your attack is a considered a Sneak Attack and does additional damage. Your ability to sneak successfully is determined by a number of factors: - Movement: You are hardest to detect while motionless, and easier to spot while moving. - Line of Sight: Enemies are much less likely to detect you if they can't see you. - Light Level: The darker it is, the harder it is for enemies to see you. - Sound: Attacking or casting spells makes noise, which may alert enemies to your presence. Heavier weapons make more noise. Spells produce both sound and light. - Armor: Heavier armor makes more noise when moving. Enemies will react to other sounds in the environment, like arrow impacts or traps. You can sometimes use this to your advantage to lure an enemy out of position.

Followers are characters who agree to join you on your adventures. Some are trained Hirelings, mercenaries who fight in exchange for gold. Others might be ordinary townspeople inspired by your example who agree to follow you if asked. Most followers can be issued commands. Target your follower, then press and hold [Activate] to enter the command state. While in the command state, you can tell your follower to: - Wait at a specific spot on the ground. - Use an object in the world, such as a lever or chair. - Attack an enemy. - Open a locked door or container. - Pick up items in the world. - Exit the command state by pressing [Cancel]. Note that not all followers can be commanded, and some commands may not be carried out, either because they are physically impossible for your follower (such as picking a lock that is beyond their skill), or because they object to the command (such as being asked to attack a member of their family). Be warned, the guards will hold you responsible for any crimes you command a follower to commit! While followers will attempt to remain at your side, there are some places in Skyrim where they cannot accompany you (such as jail). They will wait outside for you to reappear, but after waiting 3 days, your follower will leave. Should a follower ever leave your service, they will return to their normal lives. You can always ask them to come with you again (although Hirelings may demand a new fee).
For a price, some characters can train you to improve your skills. There are a limited number of these characters for each skill, and few can teach the skill at higher levels.

Hirelings are mercenaries found in the major cities of Skyrim. There is one hireling in each city, usually found in the tavern. Because of their combat experience, hirelings are among the most capable followers. Each hireling has a unique personality and skill set. Unlike other followers, Hirelings work only for money. If you dismiss the hireling, replace them with another follower, or leave them waiting for too long (such as while serving a jail sentence), you have a small window of time during which you can hire them back at no cost. Otherwise, you will have to pay their fee to hire them again.

In dialogue, you can sometimes choose to Brawl someone. A brawl is a hand-to-hand fistfight between you and another character. Neither of you can die during this fight. However, if you use a weapon or cast a spell, the fight will turn into a live combat, and you may be guilty of a crime.
In dialogue, you can sometimes choose to Bribe someone. The Bribe option displays the amount of gold needed to successfully bribe the other character; if you can pay the price, the bribe succeeds. The price of a bribe is based on your level and Speech skill. At higher levels, bribes become increasingly expensive, although a high Speech skill can offset this.
In dialogue, you can sometimes choose to Persuade someone. Your success at using the Persuade option depends on your Speech skill.
In order to pick a character's pockets, you must be sneaking. Approach the target from behind, and press [Activate] to bring up their inventory. Choose the item from their inventory you'd like to steal and select it. Once you've selected the item, it will be added to your inventory provided you weren't detected by the target. It isn't a crime to look in another character's pockets. But any time you steal an item, there's a chance you may be detected. The higher your pickpocket skill, the lower the chance that you'll get caught. It's also possible to plant an item into the target's inventory while pickpocketing. Just select the item from your own inventory, just like you would put something into a container.

Soul Gems are stones that can store the souls of living creatures. Filled soul gems are used to create and recharge enchanted items. Soul Gems come in different sizes. The larger the stone, the larger the soul it can store, although larger gems can also hold smaller souls. To fill a soul gem, cast the Soul Trap spell on a creature, then kill it before the spell wears off. If you have an empty Soul Gem in your inventory that can hold the creature's soul, the soul will be bound to the gem. If you have several Soul Gems, the creature's soul will be stored in the smallest gem that can hold it. Note that most Soul Gems can only hold the souls of living creatures. Only Black Soul Gems can hold the souls of humans. Undead, Dwarven constructs, and some other creatures don't have souls you can capture.
